A POEM FOR  DALAI  LAMA  JI on his Birthday

Dalai Lama means an ocean of wisdom,

What is in a name anyway?

 Westerners calling you His Holiness,

Indians may call you Karuna Doot                                                                    or ( prophet of compassion)

As you call them your Gurus.

 Chinese call you

Wolf in monks clothes,

More they abuse you,

More you shine, like a lotus

Floating on the muddy water.

Tibetan culture, if not the nation state

  May yet prevail,

You have made sure of that.

 You deny miracles, boons

Or special blessings,

Are you sure that is true !

One has seen miracles being performed

 In front of one’s eyes

 Like touching of many hearts

 And moving of minds

 With simple broken sentences.

Transforming a human

 Into a true human being;

 That is a boon,

 That you can give hope

 And dignity without divinity,

 A twinkling eye

 Of smiling compassion;

 That is a special blessing.

Du Che Che (Tibetan for thank you)

Namaskar ( meaning I bow to you in Sanskrit and  Hindi)

And Thank You

For being the finest global Guru,

 For residing

In an Indian Dharamshala or Dharam-Shala                                                                          (a pilgrims resting place)

 May peace be upon

All of us of Earth family,

 And long may you live,

 Stringing pearls of wisdom

 Stretching into eternal emptiness.

 What a wondrous, smiling life

 You have
